The Middle forge drainage project was designed, planned and lead by one of our Trustees and Directors.

Phase 1 covered the installation of three catch pits alongside the line with associated pipework and was completed in November 2024 by a small team of volunteers.  (As can be seen in Dean Forest Magazine issue number 70 Spring – “Rhyne and Reason”).

Over 2 days last week the team returned to Middle forge and worked on neighbours property to install an outlet headwall, construct and bury the 60 metres (197 feet) of drainage pipes from the last catch pit down to the canal.

This now leaves the final phase to install the first catch pit and inlet headwall along with a collection pond on the west side of the railway where the water has been running down the lane and into the track bed.

Day 2 work completed a satisfying result showing the benefits of good planning and work processes.
